Matthew's Career Journey at Quantum Acoustics

Matthew's academic foundations were laid at the prestigious Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton, where he graduated in 2018 with a BEng (Hons) in Acoustical Engineering. This rigorous program equipped him with a solid understanding of the complexities of sound and vibration, forming a strong base for his future endeavours.

After university, Matthew chose a path that reflects his commitment to learning and growth. He ventured into teaching, a period during which he honed his communication and knowledge-sharing skills—a vital aspect of his current role at Quantum Acoustics. This experience in education, lasting until February 2023, also highlights his dedication to fostering knowledge and understanding in others, a trait we greatly value.

Joining Quantum Acoustics in early 2023 as an Assistant Consultant marked a significant turning point in Matthew's career. Here, he benefitted immensely from our environment's accelerated learning curve. As a smaller consultancy, we provide unique opportunities for hands-on experience and direct mentorship. Matthew's rapid progression is a testament to our ethos: empowering team members through close collaboration with experienced professionals. 

In his first 6-8 months, Matthew shadowed all five directors, absorbing knowledge and gaining the confidence and skills required to thrive independently. His ability to attend meetings solo, advise architects and building services engineers, and manage his projects indicates his rapid professional development. This level of experience, gained quickly, is rare and speaks volumes about Matthew's capabilities and Quantum's nurturing environment.

In recognition of his remarkable progress and contributions, Matthew was promoted to Consultant in October 2023. This promotion is not just a title change; it reflects his deepening expertise, especially in areas like 3D geometrical acoustic modelling with CATT. His proficiency in presenting advice during design team meetings and navigating the complex landscape of standards, guidance, and local authority requirements is an invaluable asset to our team and clients. 

Matthew's story at Quantum is also about the supportive and friendly work environment we foster. He often shares how this culture helps alleviate stress, knowing that assistance and guidance are always available. This collaborative atmosphere at Quantum resembles continual personal and professional development sessions, a feature we pride ourselves on.
